Design work is at an advanced stage for a 12,600 sq m area in central Mansfield, formerly the site of the city’s brewery, incorporating a hotel and restaurant, offices and apartments. The existing landmark brewery tower is retained in the design to form the core of a new arts and community centre.

Great care has been taken to minimise energy costs in the construction phase by, for example, specifying locally quarried building materials, insulation manufactured using low emission techniques and recycled steel and concrete. The design also ensures reduced energy costs while the buildings are in use by aligning the main façades east-west to maximise passive solar gain and by incorporating an atrium to facilitate stack-effect ventilation and provide natural lighting.
