eco homes

Islip Road

A former brownfield site in suburban North Oxford is the setting for these three sustainable homes which are currently under construction.

The joint site owners provided us with high sustainable aims and the scheme is set to provide Oxford with some of its first houses in the private sector to achieve Sustainable Homes Level 4. This development was successfully negotiated through planning in a sensitive location and it is designed to respect the neighbouring properties in close proximity.

Sustainable principles have been incorporated into the design of the buildings from the outset and make use of the sites’ south facing orientation to provide the houses with natural daylight and energy. Innovative, modern building materials and methods have been combined throughout to give the houses a high thermal mass which reduces the heating demands of the properties. Low carbon technologies such as ground source heat pumps and heat recovery ventilation are also used to achieve the meticulous technical demands of the code. The scheme is set to be completed in summer 2010.
